10 year guarantee
You receive a 10 year guarantee on fillings, inlays, crowns or bridges made out of gold, gold-ceramic or plastic, as long as you can prove good oral hygiene (a plaque control finding of maximum 30%).
Gold, or gold-ceramic 40% PCF
This 10 year guarantee is connected to the durability of technical work made out of gold or gold-ceramic from manufacturing that has been completed under the microscope, under the condition that you do not go over a plaque control finding (PCF) of 40% (i.e. 40% or less, e.g. 39, 38, 37, ...percent). This PCF must be checked every half a year in our surgery and recorded. More than 40% (i.e. 41% and more percent) and you receive a guarantee for only 5 years.
Plastic or ceramic fillings 30% PCF
Furthermore, you receive a 10 year guarantee on the durability of plastic and ceramic fillings from manufacturing that has been completed under the microscope, under the condition that you do not go over a plaque control finding (PCF) of 30% (i.e. 30% or less, e.g. 29, 28, 27, ...percent). This PCF must be checked every half a year in our surgery and recorded. Under "plastic and ceramic fillings" are both plastic fillings that were created directly in the mouth as well as technician created inlays, ónlays, crowns and bridges made of plastic or ceramic. More than 30% (i.e. 31% and more percent) and you receive a guarantee for only 5 years.
Should you go over the 40% PCF for gold work or 30% PCF for plastic work, you still receive a guarantee for 5 years for all fillings that were made under the microscope.
Not included in the guarantee are all treatments that are either against my advice and were carried out at your express wishes as well as all other dental work and activites in my surgery.
How long do your fillings last?
How long the fillings last is dependent upon two factors:
1. On the processing:
The more carefully the material is treated by the dentist, the longer the durability is.
2. On your oral hygiene:
Just like your own teeth, fillings can also be attacked by caries. In this the material itself like plastic, ceramic, gold, etc. is not attacked but rather its edge. If you have incorrect or insufficient oral hygiene, then more bacteria can remain lying on the edge of the filling and cause caries to arise again there. As especially plastic fillings and ceramic work are susceptible to renewed caries attacks, I can only give a 10 year guarantee if your plaque control findings is under 30% and you let this be checked every half year in my surgery. Should this be over 30%, then you still receive a 5 year guarantee for plastic and ceramic fillings.
