With standard lege artis processing plastic is a very high quality processable material with long durability. It is however more important than for other materials to make sure that in the processing there is complete caries removal, that it is dry and that the excess is completely removed. As plastic is an organic material, in comparison to amalgam, the bacteria are not affected in their growth in any way.Amalgam with all its disadvantages however “actively” kills bacteria off.
